Types of Wounds

If you have a chronic illness such as diabetes, heart disease, paralysis or vascular issues, it is important to start wound treatments as soon as a wound occurs. Attempting to heal your wound at home with no medical care can delay your healing and lead to possible serious complications. Seek medical treatment as soon as your wound occurs. Some of the wounds treated at the Wound Center include:

  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Neuropathic ulcers
  • Venous ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers (bedsores)
  • Vascular ulcers
  • Arterial ulcers
  • Other non-healing chronic wounds
  • Surgical wounds
  • Burns
  • Traumatic injuries
  • Skin tears

Education

An important piece of any wound care plan is patient education. Wound healing is affected by tobacco use, diabetes, circulation problems, edema, medications, chronic illnesses and nutrition. At your appointment you will be given instruction and information on how you can improve your healing potential.
