HCMC Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Recognize WOC Nurses Week 2020

PARIS, TN – During Wound, Ostomy Continence (WOC) Nurse Week April 12–18, 2020, wound, ostomy and continence (WOC) nurses will be celebrated and honored for the services they provide to millions of patients around the world, each and every day.

The theme for WOC Nurse Week 2020 is Together We Can Make a World of Difference and empowers WOC nurses to celebrate the unique set of skills that allow them to bring unparalleled quality and value to the lives of individuals who suffer from non-healing wounds, ostomies, and urinary and fecal incontinence.

To strengthen public awareness of WOC nurses, HCMC is recognizing our outstanding wound care team at the HCMC Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine through social media.  The Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine opened in February and includes Lindsay Foust, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine; Alicia Gibson, NP; and Sonya Clark, Certified Wound, Ostomy Continence Nurse.  Together, with their experienced team, they are dedicated to a mission of healing.

Services offered at the Center also include ostomy and fistula management.  Patients living at home with a colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy, or fistula may have problems or need assistance with their pouching devices. We offer education, evaluation, and different pouching options for patients with a variety of ostomy needs including high output devices or convexity. Learning to live with an ostomy can be difficult for a patient and their family.  Our goal is to find the right pouch for you and care for skin care problems so you can manage your ostomy at home.

Nearly 6.5 million Americans have non-healing wounds because of diabetes, pressure ulcers, circulatory problems, or other injuries. Unlike normal wounds that your body can heal, chronic or traumatic wounds may show no signs of healing over a period of several weeks. If you have a wound that is not healing, the Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine can help you. Our experts offer a comprehensive program to help patients who suffer with non-healing wounds.
