Rehabilitation Services

Physical Therapy

Inpatient Rehabilitation ServicesThe most common types of patients seen at the hospital for physical therapy are those who are recovering from surgery, had an accident requiring hospitalization, are recovering from a sudden illness or had a worsening of a condition that the patient had previously. Total joint replacements, fractures, pneumonia, dehydration, failure to thrive and strokes are the most common diagnoses treated by our inpatient therapists.

Our therapists work to assist with decreasing their patient’s pain, increasing their joint range of motion and strength through exercise, being independent when moving in and out of bed and walking with proper and safe techniques for functional distances. They work on basic skills needed to prepare the patient for the next stage of their rehabilitation whether it be at a skilled rehabilitation unit, home care or as an outpatient. Learn More

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is ordered when the patient is having problems with the use of their upper extremities, self care skills such as feeding, dressing, bathing, or difficulty with problem solving and basic functional skills. Our occupational therapist teaches the patient techniques to use to regain the use of their arms and restore their previous level of function. Assistive devices are often needed for the patient to be independent in their activities of daily living (ADL) skills. Learn More

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is ordered when a patient has difficulty with eating, swallowing or speaking. A modified barium swallow study called a videofluoroscopy is performed in the Imaging department with the speech therapist feeding the patient different textures of food while an x-ray is made. This test will show if there are any problems with the muscles and other structures in the throat that a patient needs to safely swallow food and not aspirate (swallow foods and liquids into the lungs which can cause pneumonia).

A technique using muscle stimulation to assist with swallowing disorders is called VitalStim. VitalStim requires special certification and our speech therapist, Suzanne Jackson is certified in the technique and uses it regularly with our patients. Learn More
