Although dementia mainly affects older people, it is not a normal part of aging. Dementia is a syndrome caused by a variety of brain illnesses that affect memory, thinking, behavior and the ability to perform everyday activities. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 60-80 percents of cases, an nearly one in every five dollars spent by Medicare is on people with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia.

Lake Haven offers 22 beds to meet the needs of those who need inpatient mental health services including a 12 bed unit specifically designed to meet the needs of our geriatric population.
How We Can Help
The focus of hospitalization in our acute setting is on evaluations and stabilization to optimize and individual’s health. Treatment includes individual and family sessions with our treatment team of psychiatrist, therapist, nurses, social workers, activity coordinators and mental health techs, as well as individualized group therapies and activities. Discharge planning beings at the time of admission and focuses on effective treatment and support after discharge from the hospital. In addition, we will work with community resources to develop a plan for needs after discharge.
Families Play an Important Role
When one person in a family suffers from a mental illness, everyone else in the family is affected. Admission to a behavioral health treatment center is understandable traumatic. Stresses and strains in relationships are intensified. We understand this and encourage family members to express their feelings and learn new ways to cope with their frustrations. We help families participate in their loved one’s recovery process.
Treatment Services
Treatment services are available for adults and seniors in need of inpatient acute care hospitalization. Our 22 bed facility, including a 12 bed unit, specifically for geriatric patients, provides the following services:
- 24-hour behavioral health nursing care
- Behavioral health diagnostic assessment and evaluation
- Medication stabilization and management
- Individualized treatment planning
- Individual and group therapies and activities
- Spiritual care
- Discharge and aftercare planning
- Recovery-oriented coping and life-skills training
- Education regarding diagnosis, management of illness, treatment modalities and daily living skills
- Referral to community aftercare resources and services
- Medical coverage for co-existing chronic medical issues
