PARIS, TN – Henry County Medical Center will kick off its 65th Anniversary and 55th Anniversary for Henry County Healthcare Center with a Physician Meet & Greet Reception at the Paris and Henry County Heritage Center on Tuesday, September 11 at 5:30 p.m. The community is invited to meet our newest physicians to the community as well as meet our partners for our growing Cardiology Services and Cancer Care Services.
Additionally, attendees will be able to tour our healthcare historical display at its opening in the Plumley Business Center on the Heritage Center campus. The display features a historical timeline of HCMC and HCHC as well as photos, medical equipment, and more. There is also a display featuring the HCMC Volunteer Auxiliary who is celebrating 65 years of service as well.
“We are pleased to be able to share in our anniversary celebrations with the community,” said Lisa Casteel, HCMC CEO. “The Heritage Center approached us about setting up a display in their newly renovated Plumley Business Center and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to showcase our strong history in the community during our anniversary celebration. This event kicks off our activities for our partners and we are excited to be able to share with the community how we are growing forward to meet their needs right here at home.”
The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with a formal presentation at 6 p.m. where Casteel will introduce our six newest physicians and our two new care partners. Several videos have been put together to showcase our physicians and services as well as our history. Additionally, there will be food and give-aways for the community to enjoy.
The physicians to be spotlighted at the reception are as follows:
- Dr. Katherine Whitfield, OB/GYN, Paris Women’s Center – Dr. Tucker Whitfield joins the Paris Women’s Center from the Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in Fort Campbell, KY as a Staff Physician in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She also served at both Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and Landstuhl, Germany and the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, where she completed her residency. Dr. Tucker earned her Doctor of Ostepathic Medicine from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, MO and her Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. Dr. Tucker Whitfield is both a fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She married attorney Rob Whitfield in December 2016 and is so excited to join the community alongside her husband.
- Dr. Pamela Evans, OB/GYN, Paris Women’s Center – Dr. Evans had a private practice at HCMC for many years, but moved to Jackson Regional Women’s Center in April 2013. Dr. Evans earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1995 and attended the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. Her residency was completed at the University of South Alabama in Mobile where she was also chief resident of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of the South in Sewanee. Dr. Evans’s clinical specialties include general obstetrics and gynecology, gynecological surgery, urogynecology surgery, and laparoscopic and robotic surgery. She is board certified and a fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Evans has two children and is married to Dr. Paul Evans.
- Dr. Amanda Finley, Hospitalist – Amanda J. Finley, DO is a practicing Internist and newest member to our Hospitalist Team at HCMC. She comes to us from Corinth, MS where she practiced at Magnolia Regional Health Center. She began a residency program and hopes to do the same at HCMC. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and graduated from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010 and has been in practice for 8 years. She is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association, and the American College of Osteopathic Internist. Dr. Finley is originally from the area, graduating from McKenzie High School.
- Dr. Bethany Russell, Family Practice, East Wood Clinic – Dr. Russell received her medical education at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Tennessee Family Practice in Jackson, Tennessee. She is board certified to practice family medicine. Dr. Russell is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Tennessee Medical Association. She is seeing patients at East Wood Clinic.
- Dr. Sylvester Nwedo, Psychiatry, Lake Haven Behavioral Center – Sylvester A. Nwedo, is a practicing Psychiatrist who comes to us from Pathways in Jackson, TN. He completed a residency at St. John Episcopal Hospital. He will be caring for patients at Lake Haven Behavioral Health Center.
- Dr. Bo Richards, Internal Medicine, Transitions Health – Bo Richardson, MD, joined the staff at Henry County Medical Center and began his position as a hospitalist on May 4, 2009. Dr. Richardson had served the community prior in private practice at East Wood Clinic. He is returning to clinic work this fall at Transitions Health and will serve as the Medical Director for our soon-to-be established Federally Qualified Health Clinic.Dr. Richardson was born in Memphis, TN. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Vertebrate Zoology at the University of Memphis, and completed medical school at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, TN. Dr. Richardson fulfilled his internship and two years of residency at the University of Tennessee Affiliated Hospitals Internal Medicine in Memphis, TN. He was Chief Medical Resident at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine for his last year in residency.
- Dr. Rao, Medical Oncology, the West Cancer Center – Before joining West Cancer Center, Dr. Rao served on the staff of Cancer Care Centers of South Texas in San Antonio. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and Hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has extensive expertise in cancer treatment as well as the treatment of blood disorders. Dr. Rao has a broad interest in all cancer types. He is particularly interested in lung and colon cancers, lymphoma, and clinical trials. His wife is an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Methodist Le Bonheur where she pursues her interests as a neuroscientist. They have two children who attend school in the Germantown area. Dr. Rao earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree at Grant Medical College in Mumbai, India. In 1992, he moved to the United States to pursue a Residency in Internal Medicine at Wayne State University of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. Upon completion, he served on the staff of UCI Medical Affiliates in Columbia, SC and Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina. While in private practice, he became very interested in caring for cancer patients and pursued a Fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Upon completion of his first year clinical Fellowship, he pursued basic science research during his subsequent second and third years as a Fellow. Dr. Rao served on the academic staff of the University of Texas as a clinical instructor for two years and was actively involved in teaching fellows and residents.
Also during this week, HCMC will be hosting events for our partners including a cookout, snow cone day. HCMC Medical Clinics will be sponsoring a tailgating event at the HCHS football game Friday night with give-aways for the community as well. A new anniversary t-shirt was given to our partners and some will be available to the community. Additionally, HCMC is doing a fundraising drive for our Partner in Education, Inman Middle School, for its Inman Clothes Closet.
The historical display will run through December 2018 and the community is encouraged to stop by the Paris and Henry County Heritage Center during normal business hours to escape into our healthcare journey as a community. HCMC is the largest employer in Henry County with almost 1,000 employees.
