PARIS, TN – Ten years ago on March 16, Henry County Medical Center announced the opening of Paris Women’s Center and the arrival of our first employed physician, Dennis Wieck, MD. Today, we mourn the loss of this outstanding physician who provided care and compassion to our community and region.
Dr. Wieck passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 8. Many patients took to Paris Women’s Center’s Facebook page to post photos and babies he delivered and to share memories of the care they received.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 11, 2019, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1210 E. Wood St., Paris, TN. Entombment to follow the Funeral Mass at Rose Lawn Mausoleum 1695 Highway 69, Paris, TN.

Dr. Wieck was born in St. Louis, MO and grew up in Nashville. He attended Middle Tennessee State University, majoring in aerospace administration and joining the ROTC program, then enlisting in the Army National Guard. He later became an emergency medical technician, and in his busy schedule took the EMT classes.
While working at an ambulance service in Murfreesboro, he was encouraged by physicians to study medicine. After graduating from MTSU, he attended medical school at UT-Memphis, with residency at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, W.VA. In 1990 he returned to Tennessee to practice at Tullahoma. Later he moved to Dyersburg then to Shelbyville and finally in 2009 to HCMC.
At HCMC, Dr. Wieck was very active in not just caring for women and babies but assisting with the Disaster Committee and other preparedness endeavors for the organization. He was also one of the pioneer physicians at HCMC to utilize the daVinci surgical robot for hysterectomies and other GYN surgeries as well as other techniques like utilizing Nitrous Oxide for pain relief during labor. HCMC was only the second hospital in TN and one of the first in the entire country to offer this pain relief technique for patients thanks to the guidance of Dr. Wieck.
Dr. Wieck was a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as a Fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Wieck was named one of America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the 2004-2005 edition of the Guide to America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists by the Consumers Research Council of America.
Besides practicing medicine, Dr. Wieck’s interests ranged from airplanes to pistols. He even built a light sport aircraft. He was a ham radio operator and helped Emergency Management in Shelbyville and Paris. He was also a member of the International Defensive Pistol Association.
“Dr. Wieck was one of the most caring and patient physicians with whom I have had the pleasure of working, said Rhonda Crossett, Director of HCMC Women’s Center. “He showed kindness and compassion to each and every patient while delivering the best of care. We are so sad to have lost a team member that meant so very much to each of us.”
