PARIS, TN – In ceremonies to award service recognition on Wednesday, May 9, HCMC Administration recognized 80 people representing over 800 years of service for the organization

Betty Jurnett, Registered Nurse, was recognized as HCMC Partner of the Year for going above and beyond in her job duties.  She was nominated by a patient’s family member at HCMC. Her nomination read as follows:

“My husband’s grandmother was admitted into the hospital for pneumonia and was an inpatient for approximately one week.  Throughout her stay, the care she received on 2-south was excellent. However, there was one nurse that went above and beyond to take care of her. Betty took care of my husband’s grandmother like she was her own.  She was constantly able to assess what she needed whether it be a family member to stop by or her taking a little extra time to take care of her.  She made her feel like she was the only patient she had to care for, even though that was not the case.”

The remainder of her nomination praised her communication skills, her ability to keep the family updated when possible as well as aware of when physicians and other specialist were there to see the patient and to ensure the patient was not alone.  Several patients and family members have been very complimentary of Jurnett in the way she cares for her patients.

The family member stated in the nomination that “When I think of ‘Star Partner’ awards and who we most want to represent our facility, without a doubt, Betty Jurnett is exceedingly worthy of this award.”

“Betty is a true inspiration to all nurses. She shows empathy, compassion and patient-centered care to her patients,” said Michelle Seaton, HCMC Inpatient Medical and Surgical Department Director. “She always goes the extra mile to make sure that not only the patient needs are met but that her partners have what they need to make it through the shift.”

Jurnett has wanted to enter the nursing profession since she was five years old. She began her career at HCMC 15 years ago as an LPN and became an RN in 2017, now working in the CCU and ER.

Jurnett has been married for 18 years. She has three grown children, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Much of her free time is spent attending various church and school activities with her family. She enjoys being outdoors and doing yard work.
